Aston Villa vs Brentford Report

Scorers: Rogers 21’, Watkins 28’, Cash 34’; Damsgaard 54’

Aston Villa snapped their eight-match winless streak with a commanding 3-1 victory over Brentford at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s side rediscovered their form, while Brentford’s away woes continued, earning just one point from their last seven Premier League road games.

Early Pressure Leads to Villa’s Dominance

Villa started the match tentatively, with an early error gifting Brentford’s Kevin Schade a chance on the counter. However, the hosts quickly grew into the game and asserted their dominance. Ollie Watkins registered the first shot on target, setting the tone for a commanding display.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Morgan Rogers, who combined with Watkins before curling a stunning effort into the top corner, leaving Mark Flekken helpless.

The goal rattled Brentford, and their troubles deepened when Ethan Pinnock fouled Watkins in the box. The former Brentford striker confidently converted the penalty, doubling Villa’s lead despite Flekken getting a hand to it.

Matty Cash Adds a Third as Villa Run Riot

Villa’s captain John McGinn inspired his side with driving runs, one of which led to a third goal. Rogers’ cross found Matty Cash at the far post, and the full-back volleyed in his first goal of the season.

The home side could have extended their lead further before halftime and remained relentless after the restart. Flekken was called into action multiple times, including a crucial save to deny a Watkins header.

Brentford Find a Response but Villa Hold Firm

Despite Villa’s dominance, Brentford managed to pull one back through Mikkel Damsgaard. Bryan Mbeumo’s cross was kept alive by Yoane Wissa, and Damsgaard smashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Villa missed opportunities to put the game beyond reach, with Watkins failing to beat Flekken one-on-one, leading to nervy moments late on.

Brentford’s new signing Igor Thiago came close to making an instant impact, firing just over the bar after coming on. However, Villa’s defense held firm, securing a much-needed victory and reigniting their campaign.

Conclusion: Villa Back in the Top Half, Brentford Struggle on the Road

Aston Villa’s long-awaited win lifts them back into the top half of the Premier League table, with the potential to climb as high as fifth if they defeat bottom-club Southampton in their next match.

The result also marks Brentford’s continued struggles away from home, with their European football aspirations now looking increasingly unlikely unless their form on the road improves.
