FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 13
Week 13 of 38 is here and we are back with another FPL gameweek analysis to help you make the best decisions for your mini-leagues and overall Fantasy Premier League standings in the world.
By now, most managers have given up on Manchester City assets, including Erling Haaland—understandably so, seeing how the striker has been unable to score a goal or contribute anything meaningful in almost four weeks. This frees up cash for transfers that can be spread across other premiums like Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka.
If you are one of those managers who has done away with Haaland, read the analysis and FPL top tips below to learn how best to spend that humongous sum for gameweek 13.
Gameweek Analysis
Last week, the popular sentiment in the FPL community was to back Arsenal to keep a clean sheet in week 12. That was great advice, and now we are advising you to stick with them for week 13.
Our reason is that Arsenal are facing West Ham United this week and this is a match that they cannot lose.
The Hammers can be ungracious hosts at times, but they have not done enough against Arsenal in the recent past to suggest that they stand a chance in this London Derby—West Ham have only one win and one draw in their last five Premier League meetings with the Gunners. Managers may be tempted to acquire West Ham assets for this game week after how they performed away at Newcastle United last week but it is safer to go for the Arsenal big hitters as well as their defence.
That is a lot to choose from, which can confuse managers. To help with this choice, here are two games that could provide value alongside any Arsenal assets in midfield, attack or defence that you decide to go with for game week 13.
Best Value Games for Week 13
Chelsea vs Aston Villa
Players to watch: Cole Palmer (£10.9m), Nicolas Jackson (£7.9m), Ollie Watkins (£9.0m), Morgan Rogers (£5.4m).
Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham
Players to watch: Harry Wilson (£5.2m), James Maddison (£7.6m), Son Heung-Min (£9.9m), Dejan Kulusevski (£6.3m).
Best FPL Players for Week 13
João Pedro (£5.6m) – Brighton and Hove Albion
João Pedro started the season on a bright note but slowed down. Then he suffered an injury which turned out to be a reset for him. He must have learned football anew while rehabbing as he has come back with a bang. Fabian Hurzeler has eased him back into the team in the last two games but that has not stopped him from hauling in double digits for managers who brought him into their teams.
At £5.6m, he is a steal for any FPL manager worth their salt. What makes him attractive for week 13, however, is that Brighton have their easiest game of the season on paper—they host bottom-of-the-table Southampton. There is no better game for the Brazilian to get his first full 90 minutes since returning from injury because he is a shoo-in to start for the Seagulls any time he is fit. He is a favourite to score any time and a great pick for captain.
Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m) – Fulham
Before you get Bryan Mbeumo in, you must know that the Cameroon international is a short term buy—as short as week 13 only. A look at Brentford’s next five fixtures will tell you why it will be a risk to acquire him as a long-term FPL asset. However, he is currently too valuable to overlook in week 13.
The Bees welcome the Foxes to the GTech Community Stadium and will have an opportunity to cash in for their three points or a better goal difference. Everyone knows that when it comes to goals for Brentford, Mbeumo is the go-to guy. This is why they are the fourth best scoring team in the league (22 goals), which comes from an expected goals (xG) of 19.11 (eighth best). We also recommend him for the captain’s armbands in week 13 if you do not have João Pedro or an FPL premium player.
Matheus Cunha (£6.9m) – Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers are being carried by the Brazilian, who has seven goals and three assists this season. The Old Gold were once dead last, then they slowly moved up the table with draws and now the wins are coming.
This upturn in form is thanks to Matheus Cunha, who is now the second highest scoring striker in FPL behind Erling Haaland. He has an opportunity to improve his tally as Wolves host AFC Bournemouth in week 13. The Cherries are a balanced side offensively and defensively, scoring nearly as many as they have let in (16 scored, 17 conceded) which means that teams are more likely to score against them. Both sides are evenly matched, but with Cunha’s form in front of goal, he is an asset that is too valuable to pass up as you plan for week 13.
