Fulham vs Wolves Report

Scorers: Iwobi 20’; Cunha 31’, 87’, Gomes 53’, Guedes 90+6’

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their resurgence under Gary O’Neil, delivering a scintillating 4-1 comeback victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Matheus Cunha starred with two goals and an assist as Wolves secured their first back-to-back Premier League wins since February, lifting themselves out of the relegation zone.

First Half: A Tale of Missed Chances and Moments of Magic

Wolves began the match on the front foot, with João Gomes testing Bernd Leno from distance. Despite Wolves’ early dominance, Fulham grew into the game, and Raúl Jiménez spurned a golden opportunity to put the hosts ahead.

The former Wolves striker inexplicably hit the crossbar from close range after a perfect delivery from Antonee Robinson.

Fulham soon found their breakthrough in the 21st minute when Alex Iwobi curled a stunning effort into the far corner, showcasing his knack for scoring against Wolves.

However, Wolves hit back just nine minutes later, with Matheus Cunha delivering an exquisite lob over Leno after a pinpoint long ball from Mario Lemina.

Second Half: Wolves Take Control

The visitors carried their momentum into the second half and wasted no time in taking the lead. In the 53rd minute, Cunha set up João Gomes, who calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to complete the turnaround.

Fulham responded with urgency, with Robinson’s dangerous cross narrowly cleared and Harry Wilson hitting the woodwork.

Despite Fulham’s efforts, Wolves proved devastating on the counter. Calvin Bassey’s heroic block denied Cunha a second goal, but the Brazilian wouldn’t be denied for long.

In the 87th minute, he sealed the victory in spectacular fashion, curling a first-time strike from outside the box into the top corner – a goal that underscored his importance to Wolves’ attack.

Gonçalo Guedes added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, capitalising on Fulham’s defensive frailties to make it 4-1 and secure an emphatic victory for Wolves.

What It Means

Wolves’ victory propels them out of the relegation zone, providing a massive confidence boost as they look to climb the table. For Fulham, it’s a reality check after a solid start to the season, leaving Marco Silva’s side needing to regroup to maintain their top-half aspirations.

Wolves will look to build on this performance in their next fixture, while Fulham must bounce back to avoid slipping further down the standings.
