Wolves 2-2 Crystal Palace: Winless Run Continues for Wolves in Thrilling Draw
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ wait for a first Premier League win of the season continued as Crystal Palace fought back to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw at Molineux.
Despite spirited responses from both teams, neither could capitalise on late chances, leaving Wolves rooted to the foot of the table with just three points, while Palace’s winless streak remained just one point above the relegation zone.
First Half: Palace Control, Wolves Defend
Palace arrived on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham, looking to capitalise on Wolves’ poor form.
Early on, Will Hughes saw his effort blocked by Craig Dawson, and Palace continued to apply pressure, with Trevoh Chalobah missing from close range before blocking a follow-up from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Wolves showed brief promise as Pablo Sarabia’s delay allowed Palace keeper Dean Henderson to snuff out a dangerous opportunity.
Second Half: Chaotic Goal-Filled Drama
After a cagey first half, the second period erupted into life. Crystal Palace drew first blood on the hour mark when Hughes’ cross found Chalobah unmarked after an error by Wolves keeper José Sá.
However, Wolves responded swiftly as Jørgen Strand Larsen slipped a low shot through Henderson’s legs to equalise just seven minutes later.
The Molineux crowd had even more to celebrate soon after, as João Gomes slotted home on a swift counter to give Wolves a 2-1 lead.
However, their joy was short-lived as Marc Guéhi capitalised on a set-piece to level the score for Palace.
Late Drama and VAR Intervention
The closing minutes were filled with tension as Palace pushed for a winner. Mateta thought he had secured all three points for Palace, but VAR ruled out his late effort due to a foul on Henderson.
Ultimately, both teams walked away with a point, though Wolves’ winless start remains a significant concern, keeping them bottom of the league.
