Ipswich Town 1-1 Leicester City: Late Ayew Equaliser Denies Ipswich First Win

Ipswich Town’s search for their first Premier League victory of the season was heartbreakingly extended as Leicester City struck in injury time to snatch a 1-1 draw at Portman Road.

Ipswich, desperate for three points, were denied by a late Andre Ayew goal, maintaining Leicester’s dominant head-to-head record with just one loss in their last 10 meetings against the Tractor Boys.

First Half: Leicester Start Bright, Ipswich Gain Momentum

In this showdown between promoted sides, Leicester looked dangerous from the outset. Stephy Mavididi missed a golden opportunity from close range, and Abdul Fatawu’s well-placed strike was expertly saved by Arijanet Muric.

The Foxes continued to apply pressure, with Facundo Buonanotte forcing another save from Muric.

Ipswich eventually found their rhythm, creating chances of their own; Dara O’Shea’s header bounced just over the bar, and Conor Chaplin’s curled effort narrowly missed the target. Despite both teams’ efforts, the first half ended goalless.

Second Half: Davis Breaks the Deadlock on Milestone Appearance

The deadlock was broken soon after the restart by Ipswich’s Leif Davis, marking his 100th appearance for the club with a superb side-footed volley into the bottom corner, set up by a precise pass from Sam Morsy.

Leicester responded swiftly, with Harry Winks testing Muric, but the Ipswich keeper was up to the task.

Late Drama: Phillips Sent Off and Ayew Snatches a Point

Ipswich’s hopes of holding on were dealt a significant blow when Kalvin Phillips received a second yellow card, reducing the hosts to 10 men with over 10 minutes remaining.

Having already dropped 10 points from winning positions this season, Ipswich’s resolve was tested again, and heartbreakingly, they couldn’t hold on. Deep into injury time, Ayew capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to poke home the equaliser, crushing Ipswich’s dreams of a first PL victory.

Conclusion: Ipswich Remain Winless as Leicester’s Form Improves

This result sees Ipswich stay in the relegation zone, still seeking that elusive first win. For Leicester, it’s a valuable point as they extend their unbeaten run to four matches, keeping momentum as they distance themselves from the drop zone.
