Bournemouth vs Manchester City Report

Scorers: Semenyo 9’, Evanilson 64’; Gvardiol 82’

Bournemouth Shock Manchester City with Historic 2-1 Victory at Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth ended a 14-match losing streak against Manchester City with a dramatic 2-1 win, claiming their first-ever Premier League head-to-head (H2H) victory over the reigning champions. This result sees City relinquish their spot at the top of the table.

Bournemouth Start Strong and Take the Lead

Manchester City entered the match unbeaten in their last 32 Premier League games, but recent performances have shown signs of vulnerability. Bournemouth capitalised on those weaknesses within the first 10 minutes, with Milos Kerkez finding Antoine Semenyo in the box.

Semenyo controlled the ball with one touch, then expertly swivelled and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, giving Bournemouth an early 1-0 lead and sending shockwaves through the City ranks.

The Cherries maintained their composure, limiting City’s attacking opportunities, while Guardiola’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances. Astonishingly, City entered halftime without a single shot on target, and with Erling Haaland nursing a possible knock, the champions looked far from their usual dominant selves.

City Fail to Respond as Bournemouth Double Their Lead

Manchester City’s struggles continued in the second half, as they failed to test Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers by the hour mark. Phil Foden squandered a rare opportunity to equalise, dragging his shot wide after a clever setup by Matheus Nunes. This missed chance proved costly when Bournemouth doubled their advantage soon after.

Once again, Kerkez was the provider, delivering a precise cross from deep that found Evanilson, who calmly slotted the ball home for his second goal in as many games. Bournemouth nearly made it 3-0 when Marcus Tavernier’s powerful left-footed shot struck the post, and Adam Smith missed a golden opportunity, sending the rebound over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

City’s Late Response Not Enough to Deny Bournemouth

City eventually found some momentum with 10 minutes remaining, as Joško Gvardiol powered in a header from İlkay Gündoğan’s well-placed delivery, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The champions ramped up the pressure in the closing stages, but Bournemouth’s defence held firm, surviving six minutes of added time to secure a historic victory.

Conclusion: A Monumental Win for Bournemouth, a Setback for City

This famous 2-1 win marks Bournemouth’s first-ever Premier League victory over Manchester City, ending a 14-game losing streak and handing the title initiative to Liverpool. The Cherries’ resilience and tactical discipline delivered one of the season’s biggest upsets, while City will need to regroup as they face mounting pressure in the title race.
