FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 10
We are finally ten weeks into the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season. So far it has not been the best season for many managers, thanks to the high prices of players, the many injuries suffered due to the heavy fixture schedule, and the improved defences that have seen many shut-outs, draws, and close-margin wins occur.
However, we are going to be witnessing the first of the two Premier League clashes between Manchester United and Chelsea. INEOS have finally taken the much-expected decisive action which means there might be a surge of interest in Manchester United assets. Chelsea assets, on the other hand, could be ignored thanks to their midweek disaster that could sway managers.
Thanks to our EPLNews analysts, you can now take a look at the games and FPL top picks in week 10 of the 2024/25 season and see what can be gotten out of them.
Gameweek Analysis
Last week, it was Arsenal vs Liverpool and this week we are going to witness Manchester United vs Chelsea. This time around, it will be without Erik ten Hag, who was let go after losing to West Ham United.
The sack has been a long time coming, but how does it affect Fantasy Premier League managers?
Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who will be United’s manager in the interim, took charge of the club in their domestic cup tie versus fellow Premier League side Leicester City in midweek and put in a dominating performance.
He used the same selection that ten Hag would use but got more out of them than the former AFC Ajax Amsterdam manager ever did. Can these same assets be counted on against a Chelsea that lost in midweek EFL Cup action but are on fire in the Premier League?
Casemiro (£4.8m) and Bruno Fernandes (£8.2m) both got a brace each with Alejandro Garnacho (£6.2m) scoring to round up a 5-3 win over Leicester City in their domestic cup tie in midweek. Although it was a much-weakened Foxes side – basically their second-string team – the fact that these same assets who have been given up on are peaking just ahead of Chelsea will likely sway many managers ahead of the clash in week 10.
If this match is giving you a selection headache, here are two of the best value games for week 10 where assets abound.
Best Value Games for Week 10
Ipswich Town vs Leicester City
Jamie Vardy (£5.7m) was expected to light up the Premier League on his return but the veteran striker has failed to do so. However, Ipswich Town is in the relegation zone just like his team is and has a leaky enough defence that can let him through.
His counterpart, young striker Liam Delap (£5.7m), is doing much better in terms of goals and is expected not to pass up the opportunity to score in this tie between relegation-fodder teams. Leif Davis (£4.5m) and Facundo Buonanotte (£5.0m) are two names that can also be considered as acquirable assets from this tie for this week.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace
Both teams are high on confidence right now but their league positions do not yet reflect that. This is because of Palace’s defence whose sturdiness has been betrayed by their attack. Jean-Phillippe Mateta (£7.3m) scored in the last game which has earned him a mention as a potential asset, given how he plays following a goalscoring performance.
Wolves, their hosts, are scoring (second-best numbers in the bottom half and seventh-best in the league) thanks to the prowess of players like Matheus Cunha (£6.5m). Palace’s Eberechi Eze (£6.7m) remains a constant threat, especially for his set-piece ability.
Best FPL Players for Week 10
Ashley Young (£4.5m) – Everton
When you think about Everton players, Ashley Young may not readily come to your mind. However, the winger-turned-fullback is now tied with Lucas Digne and Nathan Collins on three assists, making him the best defender going forward in the 2024/25 season.
The Toffees are away to Southampton in week 10 but this will not stop him from putting in the necessary shift that fans of the Premier League are used to seeing from him. The fact that Everton are also on the up means that he has a better chance of doing something away at bottom-of-the-league Southampton than most defenders.
Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m) – Brentford
If you have not snapped up the Cameroonian at this point, then you are sleeping on a very important asset for this season’s FPL. Bryan Mbeumo’s price has gone up twice this season already to show you how much of a valuable asset he has been. Brentford will be away to Fulham in week 10 which is another opportunity for him to cement his place in second on the log behind Erling Haaland for goals for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Chris Wood (£6.4m) – Nottingham Forest
This is an asset that nobody expected to amount to much, to be honest. Still priced below £7.0m, Chris Wood is the cheapest top-class striker in the league at the moment, he is at the heart of every Forest attack as a reliable point man and his seven goals show how lethal he is this season. Forest face West Ham at home, which makes him a shoo-in for any team.
