Preston North End vs Arsenal EFL Cup Report

Scorers: Jesus 24’, Nwaneri 33’, Havertz 57’

Arsenal Cruise Past Preston with 3-0 Win to Reach Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

Arsenal advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Preston North End at Deepdale.

Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri, and Kai Havertz scored in a one-sided encounter, as the Gunners showcased their depth with a commanding performance.

First Half: Jesus and Nwaneri Put Arsenal in Control

Mikel Arteta fielded a stronger lineup than expected, including Gabriel Jesus and teenage standout Ethan Nwaneri, who seized the opportunity with an impressive display.

Arsenal dominated from the start, and the breakthrough arrived in the 25th minute when Gabriel Jesus pounced on a Jakub Kiwior knockdown from Gabriel Martinelli’s free-kick, firing past Freddie Woodman for his first club goal since January.

Just nine minutes later, 17-year-old Nwaneri stole the spotlight. Receiving a pass from Jesus, the young midfielder curled a superb strike into the far top corner, leaving Woodman rooted and doubling Arsenal’s lead.

Nwaneri’s performance further emphasised his potential as Arsenal entered halftime with a comfortable two-goal cushion.

Second Half: Havertz Seals the Victory

Arteta introduced Kai Havertz and Thomas Partey at the interval, and Arsenal continued to press forward with relentless energy.

The third goal came just before the hour mark when Havertz met Kiwior’s left-wing cross with a powerful header to extend Arsenal’s lead. Bukayo Saka was then brought on, though Arsenal maintained their grip on the game without further scoring.

Conclusion

Arsenal’s dominant 3-0 victory over Preston North End sees them through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with young star Ethan Nwaneri standing out as Man of the Match. Arteta’s side will look to maintain this momentum as they push for silverware in multiple competitions.
