Chelsea vs Newcastle Report

Scorers: Jackson 18’, Palmer 47’; Isak 32’

Chelsea Edge Newcastle 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to Move into Fourth Place

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, extending their impressive home record against the Magpies to just one defeat in the last 30 meetings at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer helped secure the points, pushing the Blues into fourth place.

First Half: Jackson Gives Chelsea the Lead, but Isak Responds

Chelsea entered the match unbeaten in six home games, and they started brightly, with captain Reece James leading the charge. Cole Palmer thought he had opened the scoring inside four minutes, but his effort was ruled offside.

The Blues kept pressing, and just after the 15-minute mark, Palmer slipped a pass through to Pedro Neto, who set up Nicolas Jackson for a simple side-foot finish, giving Chelsea a deserved lead.

Newcastle responded well after falling behind, with Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak beginning to test Chelsea’s backline.

The pressure paid off in the 32nd minute when Lewis Hall, facing his former club, delivered a cross that Isak tapped into an empty net, levelling the game and marking the 5000th goal conceded by Chelsea in top-flight football history.

Second Half: Palmer’s Goal Seals the Win for Chelsea

Chelsea began the second half with renewed intent, reclaiming the lead just two minutes after the restart.

Cole Palmer, in top form, broke through the Newcastle defence and fired a low shot past Nick Pope at his near post. Newcastle struggled to regroup, and while Isak nearly found a second goal with a misdirected cross that almost crept in, Wesley Fofana was there to clear off the line.

Chelsea’s midfield duo, Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia, were exceptional in breaking up Newcastle’s play, with Eddie Howe’s side finding it difficult to gain momentum. Howe made a triple substitution with 20 minutes left, but Isak remained Newcastle’s only real threat.

The Swedish striker rounded Robert Sánchez late on but failed to deliver the final ball, and Chelsea held on for the win despite lacking a third goal to fully secure the result.

Conclusion

Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Newcastle sees them climb to fourth place in the Premier League standings, with the Blues maintaining their strong home record against the Magpies.

Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson’s contributions made the difference for Enzo Maresca’s side, while Newcastle’s struggles continued as they remain winless in five games and slip to 12th place.
