Bryan Mbeumo’s Last-Gasp Winner Secures Thrilling 4-3 Win for Brentford Over Ipswich Town

Bryan Mbeumo scored in the 96th minute to give Brentford a dramatic 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town at the Gtech Community Stadium, extending Ipswich’s winless start to the Premier League season to nine matches.

The game saw both sides take the lead, with Brentford ultimately snatching a memorable win in stoppage time.

First Half: Ipswich Stun Brentford with Quickfire Goals

Ipswich came out strong and took control early on, as Brentford struggled to find their rhythm. Kieran McKenna’s side broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark when Kalvin Phillips fed George Hirst, who set up Sammie Szmodics for a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

Just two minutes later, Hirst doubled Ipswich’s lead by lobbying Mark Flekken following an incisive pass from Conor Chaplin.

Brentford appeared rattled but were saved from a deeper deficit as Flekken denied Szmodics with an excellent save.

The Bees finally found some cohesion and responded just before halftime. In the 44th minute, Yoane Wissa capitalised on a Vitaly Janelt pass to score Brentford’s first goal.

Moments later, Wissa struck again, driving into the box with help from Mikkel Damsgaard. Harry Clarke’s attempted clearance saw the ball bundled over the line for an own goal, bringing the score level at 2-2 going into the break.

Second Half: Mbeumo’s Penalty and Late Drama

Brentford’s momentum continued as they emerged from halftime, taking the lead in the 51st minute. Clarke’s foul on Keane Lewis-Potter was initially ruled outside the box, but VAR intervened to award a penalty.

Mbeumo confidently converted from the spot, completing a stunning comeback and giving Brentford a 3-2 lead.

Ipswich’s struggles worsened when Clarke was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for another foul on Lewis-Potter.

Despite Brentford’s dominance, Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric kept his side in the game with crucial saves, including a remarkable stop to deny Damsgaard.

Against the run of play, Ipswich found an equaliser late on. Leif Davis whipped a cross into the box, and substitute Liam Delap connected to slot the ball home, levelling the score at 3-3.

The drama wasn’t over, as Mbeumo’s floated cross evaded everyone in the 96th minute, sneaking past Muric to give Brentford a 4-3 lead. Ipswich almost equalised again in the dying moments, but Delap’s shot hit the post, sealing another agonising defeat for the Tractor Boys.

Conclusion

Brentford’s 4-3 win over Ipswich was a rollercoaster, with Bryan Mbeumo’s stoppage-time goal clinching all three points. The defeat extended Ipswich’s winless streak to nine games, while Brentford’s resilience saw them overcome another challenging encounter. For Ipswich, the loss represents another missed opportunity, as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
