Everton vs Fulham Preview
- Draw or Everton win
- Jimenez to score
After a rough start to the season where Everton lost their opening four Premier League matches, the Toffees have since found their stride.
Unbeaten in their last four league outings (W2, D2), they secured a solid 2-0 win away at Ipswich Town in their most recent game, giving manager Sean Dyche the opportunity to lead his team to a five-match unbeaten run for just the second time since taking charge.
With momentum building, Everton’s faithful will be hoping their side can continue this resurgence at home.
Everton’s October Surge
Everton’s improvement in form seems to be closely linked to the arrival of October. Since the start of the 2022/23 season, they’ve averaged 1.55 points per game in October compared to just 0.75 in August and September.
Not only that, but their defensive record during this period has been impressive, with the Toffees recording clean sheets in six of their last seven October fixtures.
Conceding just two goals across the past four rounds of Premier League action has put Everton joint-top for the best defensive record during that time, along with their local rivals Liverpool.
Fulham’s Goodison Streak
Although Everton are hitting form, Fulham shouldn’t be too discouraged. They head to Goodison Park having won their last three visits to the ground, a feat even more remarkable considering they didn’t win any of their first 27 league trips to the venue!
A fourth consecutive H2H win at Goodison would be a fantastic way to close out what will be Fulham’s final league visit to the famous stadium before Everton’s relocation.
Despite coming into the game on the back of consecutive defeats against top opposition in Manchester City (3-2) and Aston Villa (3-1), Fulham’s overall league record (W3, D2, L3) places them comfortably in mid-table.
A win here would not only get their season back on track, but it would also be a particularly sweet result for manager Marco Silva, who remains unbeaten against his former club since being sacked in December 2019 (W3, D2).
Players to Watch
Ashley Young (Everton): The experienced full-back has provided two assists in his last four appearances and is just one goal shy of reaching 50 Premier League strikes. Coincidentally, his first-ever Premier League goal came against Fulham back in 2006.
Raúl Jiménez (Fulham): The Mexican striker has found form, scoring five times in his last six starts for club and country. All five of those goals have opened the scoring for his side, so Everton will need to be alert to his early threat.
Prediction
Everton’s recent resurgence and Fulham’s dip in form against top teams suggest the Toffees may have the edge. However, Fulham’s strong record at Goodison Park in recent years should not be overlooked.
This game could be tight, but with Everton’s defensive solidity and home advantage, they could edge it.
