Brighton vs Wolves Preview
- Brighton to win
- Brighton to keep clean sheet
Brighton will be looking to continue their resurgence after ending a four-match winless streak by securing back-to-back wins against top-seven sides from last season.
They now aim to make it three consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since September 2023 as they face Wolves, a team they’ve had considerable success against in recent years.
Brighton have won four of the last five league meetings against Wolves (D1), and they’ve already beaten them once this season in a thrilling 3-2 Carabao Cup clash.
The Seagulls boast an unbeaten home record this term (W4, D2), and since the start of 2022, only Aston Villa have managed to leave the Amex Stadium with a win.
With their solid home form and a strong head-to-head record against Wolves, Brighton will be confident of extending their run and maintaining pressure on the top sides.
Wolves’ Struggles Continue
Wolves find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table and in desperate need of a turnaround.
They’ve struggled away from home against Brighton historically, managing just three wins in 20 away league encounters (D8, L9), with all three of those victories coming by the same narrow 1-0 scoreline.
However, given that Wolves have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side this season (23), a clean sheet seems like a distant possibility.
Gary O’Neil’s side come into this match under significant pressure, with the manager’s position increasingly under scrutiny following a series of poor results.
Wolves have lost five consecutive league games despite scoring in each, and with their defensive vulnerabilities, they risk becoming the first team since Manchester City in 1960 to lose six straight top-flight matches while still finding the back of the net.
O’Neil will also have to deal with the distraction of an FA probe into his comments regarding an alleged unconscious bias in favour of bigger Premier League clubs, adding to the mounting pressure.
Key Battle: Lewis Dunk vs Jørgen Strand Larsen
Brighton’s captain Lewis Dunk is set to make his 250th Premier League appearance, and he’ll be eager to mark the occasion with a memorable performance.
Known for his aerial prowess, Dunk has scored eight of his last nine league goals with his head, making him a threat in set-piece situations.
He’ll be up against Wolves’ Jørgen Strand Larsen, who has been involved in four goals in his last seven Premier League outings (G3, A1).
However, despite his contributions, Wolves have lost all four games in which Larsen has made an impact. Dunk’s leadership at the back will be crucial in containing Larsen and ensuring Brighton maintain their defensive solidity.
Prediction
Brighton will likely dominate this encounter given their strong home form and Wolves’ defensive frailties. With Wolves struggling to keep clean sheets and Brighton finding their rhythm again, the Seagulls are well-positioned to secure a comfortable victory.
