Brentford vs Wolves Report

Scorers: Collins 2’, Mbeumo 20 (P)’, Norgaard 28’, Pinnock 45+2’, Carvalho 90’; Cunha 4’, Larsen 26’, Ait-Nouri 90+3’

Brentford scored four first-half goals in a blistering display against Wolverhampton Wanderers, ultimately running out 5-3 winners and leaving Wolves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table going into the international break.

First Half: Brentford Dominate as Goals Flow

The tone for the match was set immediately, with Brentford opening the scoring within the first two minutes.

Defender Nathan Collins found himself unmarked in the Wolves box and headed home Mikkel Damsgaard’s cross to give Brentford the lead.

Although Brentford missed out on setting a Premier League record for four consecutive first-minute goals by just 16 seconds, their early strike sparked a frantic first half.

Wolves responded quickly, as Nélson Semedo’s cutback found Mateus Cunha, who fired in from 12 yards to level the score and set up an end-to-end encounter.

However, Brentford regained the lead on 20 minutes after VAR determined Mario Lemina had fouled Collins in the box, allowing Brian Mbeumo to calmly slot home from the penalty spot.

Yet again, Wolves showed resilience, equalising four minutes later when Jørgen Strand Larsen steered in Rayan Aït-Nouri’s low cross.

The goal-fest continued just 90 seconds later when Christian Nørgaard restored Brentford’s lead, finishing from close range after Wolves’ defence failed to clear their lines.

Wolves’ backline looked increasingly fragile, and their inability to deal with deliveries into the box left goalkeeper Sam Johnstone repeatedly exposed. Brentford capitalised once more in first-half stoppage time as Ethan Pinnock rose unchallenged to head across goal, making it 4-2 to the hosts.

Second Half: Wolves Improve but Brentford Seal the Win

Gary O’Neil opted not to make wholesale changes at the break, and Wolves showed some defensive improvement in the second half, managing to prevent Brentford from extending their lead until the closing moments.

Though Wolves showed glimpses of attacking promise, Brentford adopted a more conservative approach, protecting their defensive structure as the game wore on.

In the closing stages, Brentford substitute Fabio Carvalho tapped in a fifth goal after a well-worked move, putting the result beyond doubt. Rayan Aït-Nouri then scored a late consolation for Wolves, but it did little to change the overall narrative of the match.

Brentford Extend Unbeaten Home Run, Wolves in Relegation Woes

With this victory, Brentford extended their unbeaten run at the Gtech Community Stadium, showcasing their attacking prowess and ability to capitalise on defensive errors.

Wolves, meanwhile, did little to alleviate concerns about their porous defence and face the reality of a relegation battle if they don’t tighten up at the back.

Conclusion

Brentford’s attacking fluidity and quick transitions exposed Wolves’ defensive weaknesses, earning the Bees a deserved 5-3 win.

Wolves, despite their spirited attacking display, must address their defensive frailties if they are to avoid a prolonged relegation battle.
