Aston Villa vs Wolves Report

Scorers: Watkins 73’, Konsa 88’, Duran 90+4’; Cunha 25’

Aston Villa came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park in a thrilling match. The game featured plenty of action, with late goals, yellow cards, and numerous fouls.

First Half: Wolves Strike Early

Wolverhampton Wanderers got off to a strong start, and Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a spectacular right-footed shot from outside the box that nestled into the bottom left corner of the net. Villa responded with several attempts, but a resilient Wolves defence, led by Craig Dawson and Yerson Mosquera, kept them at bay for the remainder of the half. Aston Villa struggled to break down the Wolves’ defence, heading into halftime 0-1 down.

Second Half: Aston Villa Bounce Back

Villa made crucial substitutions at the start of the second half, bringing on Leon Bailey and Ian Maatsen to add more attacking options. It paid off in the 73rd minute when Ollie Watkins equalised, slotting home a right-footed shot from the centre of the box after a superb assist from Morgan Rogers. This goal reignited Villa’s spirits, and they continued to push forward.

Just 15 minutes later, Ezri Konsa put Villa in the lead, converting a cross from Youri Tielemans into a right-footed finish, giving the home side a 2-1 advantage in the 88th minute.

Extra Time Drama: Jhon Durán Seals the Win

With 13 minutes of added time announced, Aston Villa maintained their momentum. Jhon Durán sealed the victory in the 4th minute of injury time with a calm left-footed finish after another assist from the impressive Morgan Rogers. This late goal secured the three points for Aston Villa, capping off an extraordinary comeback.

Key Moments and Discipline

The match saw numerous yellow cards, including one for Matheus Cunha in the dying minutes (90’+12). Aston Villa’s Ross Barkley (90’+11) and Morgan Rogers (75’) were also booked, while Yerson Mosquera and Pau Torres were cautioned earlier in the match.

Despite Wolves’ best efforts, including a last-minute surge and corner in the 90’+8 minute, Aston Villa held on to secure a well-deserved 3-1 win.

Villa’s victory moves them further up the Premier League table, showcasing their resilience and ability to respond under pressure, while Wolves will need to regroup after a hard-fought but ultimately disappointing outing.
