Leicester vs Everton Preview

  • Draw or Leicester win
  • Vardy to score

Winless Sides Seeking Breakthrough

Two of the six Premier League sides still searching for their first win of the season face off as Leicester take on Everton. Leicester’s return to the top flight hasn’t gone as planned, with frustrations mounting over their winless start (D2, L2).

Most recently, the Foxes were held to a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, a result overshadowed by controversy regarding the overturning of Palace’s first goal.

Steve Cooper’s men will now aim to turn their fortunes around and secure their first three points of the season against an Everton side that is also struggling.

Historically, Leicester have found it difficult to overcome Everton in league meetings, winning just one of the last seven head-to-head encounters (D3, L3). The last time Leicester won a home league match against Everton was in December 2019, when they triumphed 2-1.

Everton’s Crisis Continues

While Leicester are battling for form, Everton appear to be in a full-blown crisis. With four defeats from their opening four league games, the Toffees find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Their midweek penalty shootout loss to Southampton in the Carabao Cup only added to their woes. In addition to their on-field struggles, Everton are dealing with uncertainty off the pitch as investors battle for control of the club, leaving fans anxious for a resolution.

Amidst the turmoil, manager Sean Dyche faces increasing pressure to turn the team’s fortunes around. Everton’s defensive frailties have been glaring, with 13 goals conceded in their opening four league matches.

This dismal start puts them in unwanted company, as they are only the third Premier League team to lose their first four games while conceding 13 or more goals, joining Swindon Town (1993/94) and Southampton (2012/13).

Key Players to Watch

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

Vardy has already netted two goals this season and scored against Everton in his last home league appearance against them. Interestingly, each of his last three goals against the Toffees came in matches that ended in draws, which could hint at another tight contest.

Abdoulaye Doucouré (Everton)

Doucouré scored his first goal of the season against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, and he was Everton’s joint-top Premier League scorer last season.

However, the midfielder’s last away goal came back in November 2023, and Everton will be looking to him for more attacking contributions as they search for their first points.

Leicester’s Home Form and Everton’s Defensive Woes

  • Leicester’s recent record against Everton: One win in the last seven league meetings (D3, L3).
  • Leicester’s last home league win against Everton:  December 2019 (2-1).
  • Everton’s defence: 13 goals conceded in four league matches, making them one of only three Premier League teams to start with four losses while conceding 13+ goals.

Conclusion

Both Leicester City and Everton find themselves in desperate need of a win as they continue their winless starts to the Premier League season.

Leicester’s historical struggles against Everton suggest that this could be another challenging encounter, while the Toffees’ defensive frailties and off-field issues add to the pressure on Sean Dyche.

With both teams searching for momentum, this match could prove to be a pivotal moment in their respective seasons.

Prediction: A tightly contested match, but Leicester’s home advantage may see them edge out a narrow victory.
