FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 4
The first international break of the season is done and dusted and Fantasy Premier League managers are back to racking their brains for the best strategies ahead of the upcoming gameweek 4.
The week will see many changes to many teams in-game and in real life, as quite a few teams will be looking to integrate their new signings and also create matchday squads thanks to fitness issues suffered during the international break.
As usual, we are here to give you the best FPL tips and analysis, as well as top picks to guide your strategy for the upcoming week.
Gameweek Analysis
Curious moves happened on deadline day of the summer transfer window which many managers will be keeping their eyes on.
One such move is Jadon Sancho to Chelsea and another is Raheem Sterling to Arsenal. Both players were out of favour at their parent clubs and will hope that the loan moves they secured on deadline day will rejuvenate their careers. Raheem Sterling looks interesting, especially, judging by the training clips coming from London Colney. Arsenal are in action away from home this week in their first North London Derby of the season, which could be the former Manchester City man’s debut for the Gunners. It is unlikely he will start, however, which makes his £6.8m price tag a risk for this game week.
In light of this, here are some games you can consider as you create your FPL strategy for week 4.
Fulham vs West Ham United
Many witnessed what Mohammed Kudus (£6.4m) was capable of just before the international break when the Hammers hosted Manchester City. He has not delivered much, but this London derby is the perfect place for him to get up and running. Meanwhile, his attacking partner, Jarrod Bowen (£7.5m) has scored one goal and was responsible for Ruben Dias’ own goal in their loss to City just before the international break.
Their hosts have Emile Smith-Rowe (£5.6m) and Adama Traore (£5.0m) to counter them, with wildcard/differentials in Alex Iwobi (£5.5m) and Antonee Robinson (£4.5m), both of who can be dangerous on their days.
Aston Villa vs Everton
This is a match that is made for Ollie Watkins (£8.9m), but the striker has not kicked into gear yet. He assisted a goal in Villa’s last game before the international break but there are also concerns about his fitness going into week 4. In case he is a no-show, Morgan Rogers (£5.1m) and Jhon Duran (£6.0m) are good options to select against Sean Dyche’s Everton.
Amadou Onana (£5.1m) has been a revelation since moving to Unai Emery’s side and will now face his former team in a match he is expected to contribute meaningfully to, making him another worthy pick from the game.
Best FPL players for Gameweek 4
Danny Welbeck (£5.7m) – Brighton and Hove Albion
Brighton and Hove Albion have 7 out of a possible 9 points from their opening three games of the season and most of this is thanks to Danny Welbeck, who can now be considered a veteran striker in the Premier League.
They come up against newly-promoted side Ipswich Town in week 4 at home. This is a game for many managers with Brighton assets to shine, but Welbeck is our pick because of his price compared to other strikers in the game this season. The Seagulls also have Nottingham Forest (H) coming up after Ipswich, which makes Welbeck an even more attractive prospect for managers.
Eberechi Eze (£6.9m) – Crystal Palace
Eberechi Eze was denied a goal on opening day and failed to yield any significant points on week 2. However, managers who kept faith were rewarded with 10 points from Crystal Palace’s main creative outlet thanks to his goal which helped them secure a point against Chelsea in week 3, just before the international break.
The Eagles welcome newly-promoted Leicester City to Selhurst Park in week 4 and this presents an opportunity for the England international to create more and get a goal contribution thanks to his role in the team. His opening statistics are the best in the league, with his 15 goal-bound shots only bettered in the division by Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo (17).
Nicolas Jackson (£7.6m) – Chelsea
Our choice of Nicolas Jackson as one of our top three packs for game week 4 is because of Chelsea’s run of games in the coming weeks before the next international break. The Blues will take on AFC Bournemouth in week 4 and afterwards, will take on West Ham (A), Brighton (H) and Nottingham Forest (H) in that order.
It may be risky to bet on Chelsea in these games because of their erratic nature but this is a run that we can expect them to get results in. And whenever Chelsea get results, Jackson has proven himself, making him a great pick for week 4 and the near future.
