Noni Madueke’s Second-Half Hat-Trick Propels Chelsea to Thrilling 6-2 Victory Over Wolves
Chelsea secured their first Premier League victory under new manager Enzo Maresca with a stunning 6-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Noni Madueke was the star of the show, scoring a second-half hat-trick to help the Blues stave off two comebacks from the hosts.
First Half: Early Goals and a See-Saw Battle
Chelsea wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet, with Nicolas Jackson heading home a Cole Palmer corner in the second minute to give the visitors an early lead.
Wolves almost responded immediately, with Yerson Mosquera heading just wide from close range before the 10-minute mark.
Despite falling behind early, Wolves grew into the game and found an equaliser just before the half-hour mark. Matheus Cunha, who had a previous effort ruled out for offside, made no mistake this time, curling a shot past Robert Sánchez after being set up by Rayan Aït-Nouri.
Chelsea’s defence struggled to contain Cunha, who almost put Wolves ahead shortly after, only for Levi Colwill’s deflection to send his shot onto the crossbar.
The visitors capitalised on their narrow escape, as Sánchez launched a quick goal kick that found Jackson, who then set up Palmer for a composed finish over the backtracking José Sá.
However, Chelsea’s lead was short-lived, as in the sixth minute of added time, Jørgen Strand Larsen scored his first goal for Wolves, heading home from a Toti Gomes assist to send the teams into the break level at 2-2.
Second Half: Madueke’s Hat-Trick Powers Chelsea to Victory
The second half began much like the first, with Chelsea quickly regaining the lead. Just three minutes after the restart, Noni Madueke scored his first goal of the season, benefiting from a deflection off Aït-Nouri after being set up by Palmer.
Nine minutes later, the same duo combined again, with Madueke this time beating Sá with a clean strike to double Chelsea’s advantage.
Wolves were left reeling as Chelsea continued to press forward. After the hour mark, a mistake in Wolves’ half allowed Enzo Fernández and Jackson to combine and find Palmer, who once again set up Madueke.
The winger made no mistake, slotting home to complete his hat-trick in just 15 minutes and effectively put the game beyond Wolves’ reach.
Late Drama and Chelsea’s Dominance
Wolves’ misery was compounded in the final stages of the match. Mario Lemina thought he had pulled one back for the hosts with a thunderous strike, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
Chelsea quickly capitalised on the reprieve, as former Wolves player Pedro Neto set up João Félix, who rifled a shot into the top corner to make it 6-2.
The result marked Chelsea’s first victory at Molineux in five years and provided a significant boost to Maresca’s side after a disappointing draw on the opening weekend.
For Wolves, the defeat leaves them still searching for their first points of the season, with a sobering home loss highlighting the challenges they face this campaign.
