Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

The Premier League 2024/25 season might have kicked off but transfer activity is still in full swing. Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

In a few days, the European summer transfer window will be closed and managers will have to work with what they have been given to achieve their team’s aims. As clubs begin to wrap up their transfer window activity and fans look forward to their clubs’ new signings, here are the EPL transfers business and news round-up from today’s papers.

EPL Transfers

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Manuel Ugarte, with many reliable sources claiming that the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain have reached a deal. What is unknown, however, is whether the deal will be a permanent one or a loan with an option to buy for next season (2025/26). The Uruguayan has since agreed to personal contract terms with United but a delay in getting a deal over the line meant that he had to spend his pre-season with PSG and eventually sit out their league opener. Details will be finalised soon (Sky Sports).

The Red Devils have also sealed the signing of 18-year-old Sékou Koné from Guidars FC in Mali. The young midfielder is one of Manchester United’s signings for the future, which was influenced by Christopher Vivell, the club’s new but short-term recruitment scout. Koné was scouted in his home country of Mali and will now link up with United’s youngsters while doing what he can to break into the club’s first team as early as he can or become good enough to attract clubs willing to give him a chance (Fabrizio Romano).

United’s rivals Liverpool have let Sepp Van Den Berg move to Brentford for £25 million having found it difficult to find a place in the squad for the 22-year-old defender. He signed a five-year contract with the Bees, ending a five-year spell with Liverpool which saw him spend a lot of time on loan at other clubs. It was his performance in the 2023/24 season on loan at Mainz 05 in the German Bundesliga that convinced the Bees to sign him from Liverpool, a decision which pleased manager Thomas Frank. The Danish gaffer said at his presentation: “Sepp is a great character, and I am convinced that he will fit in well with the group and help us to push forward.” (Brentford official website).

Fulham have completed the signing of Sander Berge from Burnley for £25 million. Speaking to FFCtv, Berge said: “It feels fantastic. It’s been a little bit back and forth the last few weeks, but I’m finally sitting here in the shirt in this beautiful stadium, knowing that my future is here, which feels great.” Fulham’s vice-chairman and director of football operations Tony Khan added: “I’m excited to welcome Sander Berge to Fulham! Sander has tremendous experience playing in the Premier League and in international competition, and we believe that he’ll be a great addition to our squad, as we look forward to our first home game of the season this weekend!” (Fulham official website).

Manchester City are looking at a former Ange Postecoglou player to replace Julian Alvarez following his sale to Atlético de Madrid. The player is Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi (29), who is reportedly keen on the move to Etihad where he will become the Cityzens’ first-ever Asian signing. He joined Celtic in 2021 and has scored 73 goals in 135 appearances which has helped them to win seven trophies in that time. The deals will not be pursued until City finalise İlkay Gündoğan’s signing (The Athletic).

The biggest news of the day is that Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for €33.5 million and another €5 million in variables. Merino will sign for four years with the option of an extra year (The Athletic).
