The 2024/25 Premier League season is upon us, with things kicking off tonight in the opening game between Manchester United and Fulham (8 PM)

Saturday will see six games take place, starting with Ipswich hosting Liverpool (12:30 PM). There are four clashes at 3 PM – Arsenal vs Wolves, Everton vs Brighton, Newcastle vs Southampton and Nottingham vs Bournemouth, while the late kick-off pits West Ham against Aston Villa at 5:30 PM.

Sunday’s games are Brentford vs Crystal Palace at 2 PM and Chelsea hosting Manchester City at 4:30 PM in matchday 1’s headline clash.

This first round of games concludes on Monday evening with the meeting of Leicester and Tottenham (8 PM) at the King Power Stadium.

Ed Sheeran Buys Ipswich Stake

English musician Ed Sheeran has acquired a 1.4% share in his favourite club, Ipswich Town. As things stand, he is slated to be a passive investor and not joining the club’s board of directors.

He has been Ipswich’s shirt sponsor since 2021 and being minority owner now grants him access to an executive box at the Portman Road Stadium.

“I am really excited to have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club,” Sheeran said in a club statement. “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.”

EPL Transfers

Bournemouth are set to replace Dominic Solanke with Porto striker Evanilson in a club record £31.5 million (plus £8.5 million in add-ons) deal, according to a report from ESPN.

Italian club Napoli are currently in negotiations with Manchester United over a loan deal for Scott McTominay. Napoli would prefer a loan move due to the £30 million asking price for a permanent transfer being deemed too much for their current situation. (The Times)

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is very close to leaving the champions on loan to newly promoted Ipswich. Fabrizio Romano reports that he passed a medical on Thursday night and that an official announcement should come over the weekend.

Spanish newspaper El Diario Vasco claims that Liverpool are preparing one final offer for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. And in another bit of news involving the two clubs, Tutto Juve reports that despite the Reds’ interest in Takefusa Kubo, he too is rather wanting to remain with Sociedad.

Football Insider reports that Manchester United have informed Christian Eriksen that he needs to find a new club this summer.

Corriere dello Sport says that Aston Villa could be ready to pay the £37 million release clause of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, which is considerably more than the £21 million Napoli are offering to the Blues.

Liverpool target Goncalo Inacio might be available for a lower price than initially reported. While he has a £51 million release clause in his contract with Sporting, the Portuguese club might allow him to leave for £38 million. (O Jogo)

Amid still plenty of interest from Arsenal and Manchester City in Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle have made it clear that they are not willing to sell him so late in the transfer window. (GIVEMESPORT)

The Athletic reports that Chelsea have set a £60 million price on winger Noni Madueke.

While on the subject of Chelsea, HITC claims that there is growing optimism regarding the completion of a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, meaning that Conor Gallagher would then also be allowed to join the Spanish club.

Tottenham’s Manor Solomon is expected to exit the club on loan before the end of the transfer window, as per a report from the Evening Standard.
