EPL Transfers
Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of striker Dominic Solanke. The former Chelsea academy player has spent the last five seasons at AFC Bournemouth where he experienced relegation and promotion while honing his skills as a striker. In the 2023/24 season, he hit a personal career best of 19 goals in a single Premier League season and with Spurs, he could finally cross the two-decade goal mark. Solanke has signed a deal until 2030 with the North London side (Tottenham Hotspur website).
One Chelsea academy graduate could replace another at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth are targeting Tammy Abraham to take Solanke’s place. AS Roma have signed LaLiga top scorer Artem Dovbyk and have put Abraham on the market as a result. The Cherries want to bring back The Chelsea striker to England and are preparing to contact his people (Calciomercato).
On the other side of North London, there’s talk of a goalkeeper swap with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Aaron Ramsdale is no longer the Gunners’ first choice thanks to Mikel Arteta’s preference for David Raya. It is believed that the former Sheffield United man will leave the Emirates before the start of the 2024/25 season and now, there’s talk of him moving to the Molineux as part of a swap deal that will bring Wolves backup goalkeeper Dan Bentley to become Raya’s backup. Ramsdale, meanwhile, will sign to become the Old Gold’s number 1 as they expect their current number 1, José Sá, to leave before the summer is up (Football.London).
Arsenal are also in the news for Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong, whose wages has seen him linked with a move away from the club for the past three seasons. The Dutchman has been a stalwart of the team, but their widely publicised financial woes have made it so that they need to make a big sale in order to free up space in their books. The club are now open to selling De Jong this summer for £51 million (Relevo). There are no concrete reports on Arsenal’s desire for De Jong, but he is widely admired by many including Arteta, who reports claim would like to use him in a special way to increase Martin Ødegaard’s attacking contributions to the team (Football.London).
The Gunners are also back in for Victor Osimhen following Antonio Conte dropping him for their official season opener, the Coppa Italia match with Modena. The player’s price tag has proved to be a stumbling block for all interested clubs but seeing Conte’s decision to forge on without the Nigerian, Napoli may budge, giving Arsenal, who are reportedly hot on his heels, a chance to strike a deal (Sky Italia).
Manchester United lost the Community Shield and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in one day as the fullback’s move to East London was confirmed (Fabrizio Romano). After weeks of speculation and a near-collapse of the deal, the defender will now join West Ham United from the 2024/25 season. United were able to get the deal over the line by paying £5.6 million to the Englishman to bridge the gap that his move to West Ham would create in his current earnings (MEN).
This deal has now given way to Manchester United’s signing of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui (The Athletic). The defender duo have played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and the Dutchman wants to reunite with them as he builds a squad that will perform better than they have in his first two seasons. The Red Devils will pay a combined €70 million for both players, with De Ligt costing €45 million (plus €5 million in add-ons) and Mazraoui costing €15 million (plus €5 million in add-ons).
