EPL Players at Copa America 2024 – Final
The final of the Copa America is now behind us, as Argentina retained their trophy in a closely contested match against Colombia. As part of our EPLNews Copa America report, here is how Premier League players involved in the tournament performed.
Argentina 1e-0 Colombia
The reigning world and Copa America champions needed an extra time goal from Lautaro Martinez to overcome a resolute Colombia team in Miami. The contest started roughly an hour late due to major ticketing issues, but the teams both quickly did their best to assert their dominance.
It was a game in which Los Cafeteros dominated important statistics such as ball possession, shots and shots on target, but it would just not happen for them. It was Argentina’s Lautaro Martinez who scored in the 112th minute with an emphatic finish to crown his country 16-time Copa America winners, despite Lionel Messi having to go off injured in the first half.
Premier League players mostly did well in this game, with Emiliano Martinez’s 9 saves standing out as he kept Argentina in it time and time again. Cristian Romero gave a masterclass in defending, while on the Colombian side, Luis Diaz could have performed better.
