Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Thiago Retires

Thiago Alcantara has retired from football after leaving Liverpool when his contract expired at the end of June, according to Sky Sports Germany.

The 33-year-old midfielder joined the club for their Premier League title defence in 2020/21, but a succession of untimely injuries restricted him to a mere 51 top-flight starts in his four campaigns at Anfield.

Thiago did play a key role in the Reds’ quadruple push in 2021/22, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup that season.

EPL Transfers

Michael Olise has left Crystal Palace to join German giants Bayern Munich on a five-year deal despite plenty of interest from the bigger teams in the Premier League. Palace reportedly received £45 million as his release clause. (Crystal Palace official announcement)

Brighton have moved quickly to bring in 19-year-old Amario Cozier-Duberry after his contract with Arsenal expired. He has signed a four-year deal with the Seagulls, becoming their third signing of the summer after Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer. (Brighton official announcement)

Leicester have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Chelsea midfielder Michael Golding for a reported fee of £4 million. His contract with the Foxes will run for four years. (Leicester official announcement)

Manchester United have reached a “broad agreement” with Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and have made it clear that they will meet his £34 million release clause. The only question that remains is whether the sum will be paid in one go or in instalments. (Sky Sports)

Liverpool will keep hold of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah this summer, despite the fact that their contracts have entered the final year, according to the Daily Mirror.

And in another bit about Liverpool, the Evening Standard tells us that the Reds have now joined the pursuit of Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer, who is on the radars of at least three other clubs.

Manchester United will hold a “recruitment meeting” today, and one of the biggest items on the agenda is the potential arrival of Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. United’s initial bid of £35 million plus add-ons was rejected by the Toffees, as they look to get £70 million for their young star. (Mail Sport)

Arsenal and Manchester United are set to fight for the £30 million signing of Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. There is interest in him from Italy as well, but the player would rather play in the Premier League. (90min)

Calciomercato says that we can expect news about Arsenal finalising a deal for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori “in the coming days”. They have already agreed personal terms with the player.

Chelsea has a new top target for this summer window: Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi. According to Rudy Galetti, they have already contacted his agent regarding a move.

Juventus’ winger Federico Chiesa is set to leave for about £20 million this summer, and Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all interested in bringing him to the Prem. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Aston Villa are keen on bringing Jack Grealish back to Birmingham, as Manchester City might be looking to sell him due to concerns about his behaviour off the pitch. (Football Insider)

Also from Football Insider we learn that Newcastle’s asking price for Liverpool target Anthony Gordon is £70 million. This is significantly lower than the £100 million reported only a few days ago.

Lastly, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg might be heading to Spain. The Tottenham midfielder has emerged as a preferred target for Atletico Madrid due to the possibility of a cut-price deal for his services. (Mundo Deportivo)
