Ashworth Joins Manchester United
After reporting yesterday that Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashwort was close to moving into the same position at Old Trafford, it has now been confirmed that the two clubs have reached an agreement for his release from the Magpies.
A joint statement from the two sides said: “Newcastle United and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the immediate release of Dan Ashworth from his contractual obligations at Newcastle United.
“The terms of this agreement remain confidential between the clubs. Newcastle United thanks Dan for his services and wishes him well for the future.”
EPL Transfers
Plenty of official confirmations today.
We start with Southampton’s free transfer of Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor, on a two-year deal, as well as the Saints confirming Taylor Harwood-Bellis coming in from Manchester City after spending last season on loan at St. Mary’s. (Southampton official announcement)
Also on a free transfer, Japan international Daichi Kamada joins Crystal Palace from Lazio, and also on a two-year contract. (Crystal Palace official announcement)
After his contract with West Ham ended, 24-year-old right-back Ben Johnson has now joined newly promoted Ipswich on a four-year deal. (Ipswich official announcement)
After Lewis Hall spent last season on loan from Chelsea on Tyneside, Newcastle have decided to sign him on a permanent basis. (Newcastle official announcement)
More from Newcastle, as they also announced the signing of 37-year-old goalkeeper John Ruddy after his contract with Birmingham City expired. (Newcastle official announcement)
Aston Villa have confirmed that Ross Barkley has joined the club from relegated Luton Town. The 30-year-old has played for the Villans before, while on loan from Chelsea during the 2020/21 season. The rumoured transfer fee is £5 million. (Aston Villa official announcement)
Also confirmed is Chelsea’s acquisition of Marc Guiu from Barcelona. The 18-year-old joins on a five-year contract and word is that the Blues paid around £6 million for him. (Chelsea official announcement)
Now on to the rumours.
Barcelona’s top right-back target is Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, who played for them last season on loan. If they can not complete a transfer for him, Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on their list of alternatives. (Caught Offside)
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf tells us that Manchester United continue negotiations with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt, while they have offered a five-year deal to the player.
Despite Chelsea’s mounting interest in Alexander Isak, Football Insider claims that Newcastle are confident that they can keep him at the club this summer.
Anthony Gordon’s head has been turned by Liverpool, who might re-enter negotiations with Newcastle to bring him back to Merseyside. (TEAMtalk)
In the face of interest from important Premier League sides such as Liverpool and Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano claims that Juventus are unlikely to pull off the signing of Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori.
And lastly, Joshua Kimmich is “hell-bent” on leaving Bayern Munich this summer to reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, after the pair worked together in Bavaria between 2013 and 2016. (Daily Star)
