Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Aston Villa Star Suspended

Villa winger Leon Bailey has been suspended by the Jamaican Football Federation for comments he made on a podcast regarding the governing body’s professionalism and practices.

Bailey made his international debut for Jamaica in 2019 and has scored five goals in 30 appearances.

After featuring on the Let’s Be Honest podcast earlier this year and complaining about the lack of professionalism and planning within the Jamaican federation, it has now emerged that they have temporarily suspended Bailey.

A statement released yesterday by the JFF reads: “The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), has made the decision to temporarily suspend the selection of Leon Bailey to the senior Men’s National Team. This decision has been made in light of recent circumstances surrounding his comments and non-participation in the Copa America 2024 team, despite being selected.

“Consideration was also given to his stated desire to take a break from national duties, and suspending his selection will guard against any further miscommunication. The JFF values the contributions of all players and respects their individual decisions regarding national team participation.”

Also on their radar is Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, who has been offered double his wages to move to Manchester United, according to SPORT.

HITC tells us that Everton defender Ben Godfrey has rejected a new contract with the Toffees and looks set to leave the club in a £15 million deal this window. He is reportedly of interest to Lyon and Atalanta.

Despite interest from Liverpool, it is reported that Stuttgart and Germany centre-back Waldemar Anton has chosen to join Borussia Dortmund this summer. This has seemingly been confirmed by the sporting director of Germany’s national team setup, Rudi Völler: “He ultimately decided on Borussia Dortmund. My former club Bayer Leverkusen also wanted him.”

Another player who has chosen to join Dortmund instead of a Premier League club is Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, according to a report from Sky Sports Germany. He had attracted interest from most big English clubs, but now seems set to stay in the Bundesliga.

Mail Sport claims that “initial conversations” have taken place between Chelsea and Newcastle about a potential deal for striker Alexander Isak to move to Stamford Bridge. The Magpies would prefer to keep the Swedish striker, and it would take a lot of money from Chelsea to change their minds: over the club record of £115 million spent on Moises Caicedo.

In other Alexander Isak news, he was reportedly the target of a Tottenham bid of Richarlison plus cash, which was swiftly rejected. (Gianluca Di Marzio)

Barcelona are considering a loan deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho. United are looking to offload the player this summer, preferably on a permanent basis. (90min)

Football Insider tells us that Manchester City are ready to pay the £51 million release clause of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo.

Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori is set to be the latest bone of contention in the rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham, as both teams are keen on the player. (Tuttosport)

As Bayern are becoming frustrated by the lack of progress in bringing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha to Germany, they are now considering a move for Everton’s Amadou Onana instead. (Liverpool Echo)

Lastly, we learn from Fabrizio Romano that Newcastle have discussed with AC Milan about the possibility of a deal for centre-back Malick Thiaw, while Kieran Trippier could move in the other direction as a makeweight.
