Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours
Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.
Hansen Discharged from Hospital
Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen has been sent home from hospital after a serious illness and will continue recovering at home.
After being warded earlier this month, now the 69-year-old former player and BBC Match of the Day pundit is feeling better, according to ex-teammate Graeme Souness, and we at EPLNews hope that he makes a full recovery.
Varga Update
In other health-related news, Hungary player Barnabas Varga is “not under any kind of risk” according to manager Marco Rossi, after a collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn in yesterday’s EURO 2024 match.
After losing consciousness on the pitch and receiving medical attention, he was taken to a local hospital for further treatment and surgery. Should Hungary progress, he is not expected to play any part in the tournament.
Liverpool midfielder and Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai has demanded changes in UEFA’s protocols in medical emergencies following the incident: “He needs some surgery on his face and his nose. I think he’s going to have the surgery tomorrow (Monday),” he said. “It looked bad, it was bad, he felt bad.
“I don’t really know the [medical team] protocol or how it works but if our doctors say we need someone immediately to help, then I don’t think they should walk.
“It’s not my decision, but I think we need to change something. Even if somebody is on the ground, and you see that it was a big [collision], then just go on [the pitch]. “Even if the referee is saying don’t go on. Just go on. And if you see it’s nothing serious, then you can just go down and it’s finished. Seconds can help a lot.”
