Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Everton Takeover Update

Sky Sports reports that Everton will be “more financially secure” and could have a new stadium free of debt under the likely new ownership of Dan Friedkin.

The Texan’s willingness to invest equity in the club was one of the main factors for current owner Farhad Moshiri’s decision to grant Friedkin an exclusivity period to finalise the buyout. Everton’s new home on Bramley-Moore Dock has been pitched as a game-changer for the club, but its prospects of being that beacon of hope have looked bleak for much of the last year. While a £158 million loan from MSP and £200 million injected by 777 Partners have helped to keep the Toffees and their new stadium afloat over the past 12 months, sports finance expert Stefan Borson made clear that the situation was not sustainable for the long-term.

Therefore, Friedkin entering the fray with a clear equity offer that could clear virtually all of the debt still existent in the stadium offers an amount of hope and excitement that the Goodison faithful haven’t seen for some time.

EPL Transfers

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of 22-year-old Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Stamenić. He has signed a contract valid for five years and will be spending 2024/25 on loan in Greece, at Olympiacos. (Nottingham Forest official announcement)

The Athletic reports that, amid persistent interest from many top clubs, Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise has decided to join Bayern Munich this summer. This was in part due to Chelsea pulling out of the race for his signature.

According to 90min, Chelsea will be focusing on bringing in two attacking players this summer, having been linked with moves for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion in recent weeks.

As Douglas Luiz’s departure from Aston Villa seems to get closer every day, the club are keen to make “a marquee signing” to replace him this summer. However, Villa must still raise money from player sales in order to avoid a points deduction due to PSR rules’ breaches. (Football Insider)

Spanish publication Fichajes tells us that Manchester United are ready to pay £50 million for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori this summer.

Arsenal are reportedly close to an agreement with Sporting for the transfer of striker Viktor Gyokeres. The figures are quite high, with £76 million upfront and up to £100 million including add-ons and variables. (Leonino)

Ian Maatsen’s transfer from Chelsea to Aston Villa is set to go through “in the next couple of days”, according to the Daily Telegraph. The rumoured fee is £37.5 million.

Spanish newspaper AS claims that Liverpool are leading the race to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams and are currently discussing a deal. Barcelona are also very keen on the player, but can not afford a deal for him now.

While on the subject of Liverpool, Fichajes is saying that they are also interested in Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz, and are willing to pay around £40 million for him.
