EPL Players at EURO 2024 – Day 1

The opening game of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament took place last night and, as part of our EPLNews EURO 2024 coverage, here is how Premier League players performed.

Germany 5-1 Scotland

There were plenty of Premier League players involved in this game, as Arsenal’s Kai Havertz led the line for Germany and Pascal Gross represented Brighton by way of a half-time substitution for the hosts.

Scotland’s EPL contingent was made up of Scott McTominay (Manchester United), John McGinn (Aston Villa), Che Adams (Southampton) and Tartan Army captain Andy Robertson (Liverpool). Brighton’s Billy Gilmour was a second half sub for Scotland.

The game was very much dominated by Germany, who were 3-0 up at the break thanks in no small part to a penalty goal and an assist by Havertz. Pascal Gross had a decent showing in the second half as well, helping to secure the result.

Adams and Robertson had a slightly better game than the average of the Scottish team, but they were ultimately unable to avoid a heavy defeat, which serves as a statement of intent for the Germans and a warning sign to all other Euro contenders.

Ratings

Germany: Kai Havertz – 8.5; Pascal Gross – 7

Scotland: Scott McTominay – 5.5; Andy Robertson – 5.5; John McGinn – 5; Che Adams – 5.5; Billy Gilmour – 5
