Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Pre-season Fixtures

Many Premier League clubs have announced some of the friendly games that they will be playing over the summer, gearing up for the start of the season in August.

The United States will be a popular destination for EPL clubs this summer, with no less than 6 teams already planning on games there. They are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Manchester United. Some of them will even be playing each other, making for an interesting pre-season schedule.

You can find the up-to-date list of games by clicking here. The link will also be updated as further matches are announced.

Former Liverpool Captain ‘Seriously Ill in Hospital’

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen is having serious health troubles, as the Merseyside club announced yesterday.

The former defender enjoyed a 14-year spell with the Reds, during which he won 16 trophies: 8 league titles, 3 European Cups, 3 League Cups and 2 FA Cups.

You can read the club’s statement here.

EPLNews also extends its well wishes and prayers to Hansen, his family, friends and fans.

Manchester City Trial Begins

Manchester City’s legal challenge against Premier League financial rules is set to be heard over the next 2 weeks, a move that could have far-reaching implications for English football’s top tier.

The Premier League champions are suing over the league’s associated party transaction (APT) rules in a hearing commencing on Monday and expected to run until June 21.

It is understood that City will question the legitimacy of these rules under UK competition law. As initially reported by The Times last Tuesday, the club is seeking to abolish these rules, which were first implemented in December 2021 following the Saudi-led acquisition of Newcastle and subsequently reinforced in February.

These regulations aim to ensure that any commercial agreement or player transfer between a club and entities linked to its ownership is conducted at fair market value, preventing the artificial inflation of club revenues.

After yesterday’s bid of £16 million for James Trafford was rejected by Burnley, Sky Sports News understands that Newcastle will return with an improved bid, but have used the time well by agreeing personal terms with the player.

Also yesterday it was reported that Liverpool are looking to bring in Yankuba Minteh to Merseyside. The player is registered with Newcastle, but spent last season playing under Arne Slot at Feyenoord. However, today The Mirror reports that the Dutch coach is not interested in a reunion with his former player.

TEAMtalk tells us that Tottenham are on the verge of finalising a deal for Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze. Spurs seem keen to meet his release clause, and pay add-ons to sweeten the deal, bringing the reported total up to £68 million.

West Ham are preparing to announce the signing of Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme. The deal is believed to be worth £25.5 million, including add-ons. (ESPN)
