Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Clubs with Most Players at Euro 2024

Of the 20 Premier League clubs lining up at the start of this season, Manchester City will have the most players featuring at the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, with 14.

Arsenal sits second in this top, sending 11 Gunners to the showcase event, while Liverpool are going to have 10 players involved.

At the other end of the spectrum, Southampton are sending one player, while fellow newly-promoted Ipswich will see none of theirs take part in the Euros.

You can read the entire list, including names, by clicking here.

New Referees

PGMOL has announced that 2 referees have been moved up to Select Group 1 for this season.

Referee Sam Barrott and assistant referee Craig Taylor, who have officiated in their first Premier League matches last season, have been promoted from the Development Group.

Barrott has taken charge of 15 EPL games (all last season), with his debut coming in the October 2023 clash between Fulham and Sheffield United.

Taylor has been an assistant ref in over 200 games over the last 4 seasons across the English football pyramid, and his Prem debut came at the end of January 2024, when Tottenham played against Brentford.

New Brighton Coach Incoming?

While not yet official, all signs are pointing towards Fabian Hürzeler (currently at St. Pauli, in Germany) becoming Brighton and Hove Albion’s new head coach. Their position has been empty since the departure of Roberto De Zerbi at the end of last season.

Hürzeler guided St. Pauli to promotion back to the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years. Talks are continuing between him and the Seagulls at the moment, but a UK work permit application submitted by the club has already been approved.

If the 31-year-old does take charge at the Amex Stadium, he will become the youngest ever coach in the Premier League.

Everton Takeover News

Armenian businessman Vatche Manoukian is the leader of a consortium aiming to buy the 94% stake that Farhad Moshiri currently controls in Everton.

Manoukian’s group includes investors from the Gulf and United States. The Lebanese-born businessman is a partner in global technology investment firm IMS Digital Ventures, son of London socialite Rafi Manoukian and nephew of Armenian entertainment and property tycoon Bob Manoukian.

The bid is rumoured to be around £400 million.

EPL Transfers

Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has signed a one-year extension at Manchester City. You can read the official announcement here.

According to Sports Zone, Atalanta‘s Brazilian midfielder Ederson is close to an agreement with Liverpool and is expected to join the Reds this summer as the first signing under new head coach Arne Slot.

In a bit of managerial rumour, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter could be taking over the dugout position at Leicester City, which was left vacant by new Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca. (90min)

Liverpool are also eyeing a surprise move for Newcastle forward Yankuba Minteh, who spent last season playing under Arne Slot at Feyenoord. Newcastle could be tempted into selling the Gambian because it could mean PSR rules compliance, helping them keep stars like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes at the club. (The Telegraph)

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford is the subject of interest from top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, but it looks like Newcastle are stealing a march on them. The Magpies have submitted a bid of £16 million, according to a report in the Mail. Burnley are holding out for £20 million for Trafford.

After Jarrad Branthwaite was left out of the England squad for Euro 2024, Manchester United are now hoping to seal a deal with Everton for him before the end of this month. (Liverpool Echo)

Fabrizio Romano is saying that Manchester City want to keep Julian Alvarez at the club and will not accept any loan offers for him. The Argentine is on the radar of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona are hoping to convince Liverpool to part ways with Luis Diaz this summer by offering Raphinha as a makeweight in a deal. (Express)

Portuguese publication A Bola reports that, after an initial bid of £51 million was rejected, Manchester United have now put forward a second offer for Benfica’s Joao Neves.

After so much speculation involving a Teun Koopmeiners move from Atalanta to Liverpool or Juventus, now Calciomercato is telling us that Manchester United are looking to get him.
