Gameweek Analysis
Gameweek 37 is a double one, the last of this season. It is the week that Manchester City could be considered champions. There is excitement in the air among Fantasy Premier League managers as well, because City’s two games in week 37 present a great opportunity to rack up points.
The defending champions and current title favourites will face Fulham in the early kickoff on Saturday before facing Tottenham Hotspur later in the week. The Cityzens have no injuries or suspensions for the run-in, which means that FPL managers are spoilt for choice to pick a City player that will be highly motivated by the prospect of winning the league title.
Leading goalscorer Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez, Joško Gvardiol, Rodri and Ederson are all great picks from the Cityzens ahead of week 37.
City may be the team with the most promise for points’ returns because of their situation, but they are not the only team playing twice in the week. Here is the full fixture list for the upcoming FPL gameweek 37.
Newcastle United are facing Brighton and Hove Albion at home before travelling to Old Trafford to take on the struggling Manchester United.
Alexander Isak, of course, is the top pick in a Newcastle shirt. Anthony Gordon is the next one, but the forward is a yellow card away from missing the Old Trafford tie, making him a bit of a liability. Kieran Trippier is back to full fitness and is a great pick thanks to his set piece prowess, as well as overall full-back play, which usually allows him to find attacking players with a final pass.
A good differential from Newcastle will be Harvey Barnes, who is also back to full fitness. Like Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, Barnes tends to get good points when he returns from injury. Magpies manager Eddie Howe also trusts him enough, which means he will get a run in the game whether off the bench or from the start.
To get good points, managers will do well to get a good mix of the teams with two games in the week, particularly City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs and Brighton.
Best FPL Players for Week 37
Nicolas Jackson (£7.0m) – Chelsea
Cole Palmer may be Chelsea’s shining light, but in the last few weeks the world has seen that Nicolas Jackson can be just as important.
The Senegalese striker scored in back-to-back games for the second time this season and has four goals and two assists in his last five games for the Blues.
Take away Palmer’s penalties in the league and he will be one goal behind Jackson in the Chelsea top goal scorers list. If Jackson was allowed to take those penalties, he would only be three goals behind leading EPL goalscorer Erling Haaland (assuming he scores them all like Palmer did).
The striker also has five assists for Chelsea, which brings up his total goal contributions to 18 in 32 games.
Currently, Jackson is the seventh best forward in the league based on FPL points gained per match, and is the third best player based on form. His attacking threat is very important to how Chelsea play and the striker has the presence of mind to finish chances whenever he gets very clear ones.
Chelsea have two games in week 37, which makes it important for every right-thinking FPL manager to bring him in.
Alexander Isak (£8.4m) – Newcastle United
Alexander Isak is the third highest goalscorer in the league despite spending more time on the sidelines than the others who are competing with him for the Premier League Golden Boot (except chart leader Haaland).
Apart from Arsenal, Newcastle are the team that have scored the most league goals in the past two months. Most of those goals have come from Isak, who is also on penalty duties for the Magpies. He is not the second most selected player for gameweek 37 for nothing.
This is a choice that screams “bandwagon effect” but we can categorically assure you that you will have nothing to lose if you go with the Swedish striker ahead of week 37.
Newcastle face Brighton and then Manchester United over the next week. Both teams are ranked in mid-table for goals conceded, but Man United is ranked the highest in the league for shots conceded, which plays directly into Isak’s hands.
