FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 36
Only three weeks left to go in the Premier League, which means fantasy managers are wrapping up their seasons.
Every transfer, in or out, is likely to be permanent and the last of the chips will be played in the next two weeks as FPL managers look to finish on a high.
Selecting players at this point will be less tricky than in other weeks, especially with two double game weeks still to come.
To help you navigate this closing stretch, here is our in-depth analysis of the upcoming week, complete with our top two picks for this round.
Gameweek Analysis
We will start this off by naming two midfielders who must make it into your teams.
The midfielders in question are Mohammed Kudus (£6.7m) of West Ham United and Pascal Groß (£6.1m) of Brighton and Hove Albion.
Kudus and West Ham will come up against Chelsea in week 36, before taking on Luton Town in week 37 and Manchester City in the final game week. Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have a double game week incoming in week 37, where they will face both Newcastle United and Chelsea. Before that, they face Aston Villa in week 36 and then they will wrap up their league campaign with Manchester United.
While both midfielders are not entirely delivering the most points, they are good, cheap options for the run to come. If you consider who their teams face in week 36, they will look more enticing to you.
Here is the full fixture list for the upcoming game week 36.
The deadline to select your team for week 36 is 6:30 PM (UK time) on Friday, which is less than 24 hours after the Chelsea-Tottenham Hotspur game that wraps up gameweek 35. Consider the following games to make your picks from.
Luton Town vs Everton
Everton have achieved safety thanks to their nine-point lead over Nottingham Forest, but they will not want to fall behind Brentford, who are only one point behind them.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.8m) is scoring again, which makes him the best pick from the Toffees, alongside his goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (£4.8m), who is one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. They will be coming up against Carlton Morris (£4.8m) and Tahith Chong (£4.4m), both of whom have been important for the Hatters in 2024.
Burnley vs Newcastle United
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak (£8.3m) is now in the Golden Boot race and Burnley presents a big opportunity for him to gain ground on those ahead of him. With Erling Haaland facing Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cole Palmer facing West Ham and Ollie Watkins facing Brighton, this is the perfect opportunity for the Swede to take the top spot in the race.
Best FPL Players for Week 36
Chris Wood (£4.8m) – Nottingham Forest
In the last three months, Chris Wood has taken the place of Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest.
The New Zealander has scored nine goals in 13 games under Nuno Espirito Santo, who took over from Steve Cooper in December 2023. That is five more goals than any player in the squad has managed to score under the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss.
Wood is one of our picks for the upcoming gameweek simply because Forest is facing Sheffield United, who are only three goals away from conceding 100 Premier League goals, which will be the new record for the most goals conceded in an English top flight season. Wood also has Espirito Santo’s backing which means that he will take penalties – if they occur – and be the target man for set pieces during the match.
FPL managers can also sign him with the last two Premier League gameweeks in mind. Forest face Chelsea and Burnley, two teams that also concede a lot of goals. At £4.8 million, Wood is a great asset for FPL managers.
Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.7m) – Nottingham Forest
We are going to break protocol here by selecting two players from the same team as our top picks.
If Morgan Gibbs-White comes up against a team like Sheffield United whose defence is as porous as it gets, then he has to be included. The Englishman is making a case to be included in the Three Lions Euro 2024 squad this summer with his performances in the league.
Owned by only 1.7% of FPL managers, and available at just £5.7m, and with Chelsea and Burnley coming up, having the 24-year-old in your FPL squad solves a differential pick problem until the final gameweek.
Gibbs-White has two goals and three assists in his last seven games and is the attacking stats leader at Forest for the season. He will be especially useful as reports claim that Nuno Espirito Santo will revert to his 4-2-3-1 formation after trying to soak up Manchester City’s pressure with a three-at-the-back formation last gameweek.
He is our pick for the week’s vice-captain and if you still have your Bench Boost chip and are not confident of starting Gibbs-White, activate the chip and smile at the end of the gameweek.
