FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 33

Without mincing words, you should know that your picks for week 33 will only serve you for week 33 alone.

It’s not that many of these players will stop being amazing after week 33. It’s because of the double gameweek 34.

This means there will be an unbelievable amount of shuffling between now and then. No manager will want to risk injuries or fatigue, with the league entering its last lap.

So which players should you go for in week 33? Which player(s) are the best picks for the captaincy?

All this and more in the coming sections.

Gameweek Analysis

The 2023/24 Premier League season will be over in six weeks. So far, it looks like it will be the longest six weeks of many Fantasy Premier League managers’ careers because the level of competition this season is the highest it has been in a while.

The three-horse race at the top of the table, the race for fourth place, the race for the remaining European places below fourth, the race for the top ten and, of course, the relegation dogfight are all intense.

With the exception of the top three teams, there is no other team that is almost guaranteed of winning a match in the league at the moment. The average win rate of the teams below third place is 50 percent. With fixtures like the ones lined up for week 33, that ratio may even drop much lower.

Here is what the fixture list for week 33 of the 2023/24 Premier League:

A lot of matches are catching the eye. Our experts have their eyes on Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford vs Sheffield United, West Ham United vs Fulham, Nottingham Forest vs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal vs Aston Villa. These games have the potential to produce a lot of returns for managers.

The transfer stats from the FPL website also shows that players from these teams have been traded the most in the game.

Sheffield famously defeated Brentford at home, but now the Bees have the buzzing Sergio Reguilon (£4.4m) who, in 12 starts this season, has bagged five assists. The Spaniard who spent the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United is the best defender to own for week 33, primarily because of his attacking threat, but also because of Sheffield’s poor expected goals total for the season.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa has a lot of picks from both teams, but the smart move will be to bank on Arsenal players in this game. The Gunners have got the momentum going for them from their current league position and their performance in midweek against Bayern Munich.

One Aston Villa that you could look at for your team is Emiliano Martinez (£5.3m), who is 11th on the charts for most saves in the league. Facing Arsenal will surely be a test for him and his saves will earn you points no matter the outcome of the match.

For a balanced week 33, players from Newcastle, Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City and Brentford will help your team rack up points.

Best FPL Players for Gameweek 33

Erling Haaland (£14.3m) – Manchester City

The Norwegian striker is our top pick for one reason and one reason only: Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian midfielder sat out City’s match with Real Madrid after reporting an illness when the team got to the Spanish capital. De Bruyne also had a brilliant outing against City’s last Premier League opponents Crystal Palace and was the chief catalyst for their comeback win.

Haaland always plays better with De Bruyne on the pitch. Also, Haaland has been in a kind of slump for some time now, despite still being City’s leading goalscorer, as well as the Premier League’s leading goalscorer.

We predict he will find his scoring boots against Luton Town, because it will be in anticipation of City welcoming Real Madrid to the Etihad in midweek next week.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) – Manchester City

The Belgian midfielder gets his own section, of course. He is one of the most pricey FPL assets of the past few seasons, but still continues to show how much of a quality signing he is.

With two goals against Crystal Palace and a no-show against Madrid in midweek, Pep Guardiola will surely be looking to unleash him on the Hatters in week 33.

Luton are relegation strugglers and, although De Bruyne does well against any type of opponent, he has had the most goal scoring success against teams that are 10th and below in the table in all the seasons he has spent in the Premier League.

The fact that Haaland is also gearing up for a performance that will shut up his detractors will also inspire him to be at his creative best.

Managers who still have their chips are advised to play them in order to bring in De Bruyne for week 33. There is no better player to use it on at the moment.

He is also our captaincy pick for the week.
